Bowie was god

Waking up to news I wish I’d never hear – after all, if anyone was close to godlike, it was David Bowie, the thin white duke, starman, Ziggy…

Bowie has been a huge part of my music life, first in the 80s, then discovering all the early albums…but also always present in my drawer’s mind.

I drew this when I was 19 – I was fascinated by the music and his mystic

When I started drawing again three years ago, I went for all my favourite bowies in a paper dolla line up.

Then it was Moggy Stardust

I even bowified my friend Olivier, one of my muses…

I am immensely sad today – the one good news is that Bowie was, is and will be, forever.

My son aged 4, on hearing the news on the radio said:’David Bowie died? That guy with the guitar? Because he lived too long? He didn’t die, he lied!’

That wouldn’t be the first time…

Karuski is the nom de pencil for me, Katherine Mengardon - I am a fan of all things 1960s, CAKES, obscure indie pop bands, children illustrations, bad puns and cats. Any spare time goes towards baking mad cakes, drawing families and catified musicians. Find me here too:

  1. If only it was another reinvention. My kids were sad to learn the news too. While they know some of his music via me, they mostly know him as the Goblin King. The world is certainly a drabber place without him in it.

  2. Absolutely loved your work + you seem to have an amazing taste of music…I highly recommend the band Les Bonbons, they are a French band who started in London, and they mix a bit of influences from both countries! (A bit inspired by Gainsbourg, Pulp, Arcade Fire, etc but have their own identity.) I don’t know why I’m even promoting the band to you – not connected to them but who knows, I might discover one day that you’ve done their cover album! ^^
